PressHangar AI Citations for WordPress
Get your site cited by AI assistants.
Billions of people ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude questions your content could answer. PressHangar AI Citations makes your site easy for those assistants to access, understand, and — with a bit of luck and the right structure — cite by name.
AI assistants are the new search box
And most WordPress sites are set up for the search engines of ten years ago, not the assistants people actually ask questions today.
Being crawlable isn't being cited
Most sites either block AI crawlers outright or leave the default wide open and hope for the best. Neither is a strategy. Getting cited takes a deliberate, per-bot decision about who gets in — plus content structured well enough for an assistant to actually quote.
Other robots.txt plugins can quietly lose the fight
Most robots.txt tools work by filtering the file's output through a WordPress hook — a virtual override. That's fine until another plugin, a caching layer, or an unusual hosting setup ignores or overrides that hook, and your carefully chosen AI crawler rules silently stop applying.
What PressHangar AI Citations does
AI Crawler Manager
Set per-bot Allow or Block rules for GPTBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Apple Intelligence, and 10+ other AI crawlers. When you need certainty, switch on physical robots.txt mode: PressHangar AI Citations writes the rules directly into a real robots.txt file at your site root, so they always win — no other plugin's virtual override can quietly cancel them.
FAQ schema, generated automatically
PressHangar AI Citations scans your posts for question-and-answer patterns and generates valid FAQPage JSON-LD — the structured data AI assistants use to understand and quote your content. A built-in duplicate-schema guard checks for Yoast or Rank Math FAQ blocks first, so you never end up with conflicting markup.
llms.txt generator
Build and maintain an llms.txt file for your site in a couple of clicks. It's an emerging convention, not a guarantee — PressHangar AI Citations is upfront about that rather than overselling it.
Measurement links
One-click links to Bing AI Performance, Google Search Console, and the Rich Result Test, right from your dashboard, so you can actually check whether any of this is working.
Built on honesty, not hype
Most AI-SEO advice reads like marketing copy. PressHangar AI Citations is built around a simpler idea: tell you plainly what has real evidence behind it and what's still a bet.
Backed by evidence
Being crawlable, well-structured, and clearly organized correlates with getting cited more often. That's the well-supported part, and it's what the AI Crawler Manager and FAQ schema features are built around.
Still emerging
llms.txt is a promising, early-stage convention that some newer models are starting to recognize — but there's no guarantee ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity reads yours. PressHangar AI Citations flags it as optional and experimental, on purpose.
No plugin — including this one — can guarantee a citation. OpenAI, Google, and the rest control what their systems choose to cite. PressHangar AI Citations' job is to remove the reasons they'd skip you.
How it works
- 1
Choose your AI bots
Open the AI Crawlers tab, review the sensible defaults, and allow the assistants you want visiting your site — block the rest. Turn on physical robots.txt mode if you want those rules to always win.
- 2
Let PressHangar AI Citations find your FAQs
If your posts already use a question-and-answer format, PressHangar AI Citations detects it and offers to generate FAQPage schema automatically — skipping anything Yoast or Rank Math is already handling.
- 3
Add llms.txt if you want to experiment
Optional, and clearly labeled as such. Turn it on from the llms.txt tab whenever you're ready to try it.

Frequently asked questions
Will this guarantee my site appears in ChatGPT?
No, and we won't pretend it will. OpenAI, Google, and the other AI companies control what their systems cite. What the evidence does show: sites that are crawlable, well-structured, and clearly organized get cited more often than sites that block AI crawlers or have messy content structure. PressHangar AI Citations helps with the discoverable-and-well-structured part. The rest is up to the AI companies.
Why do I need a physical robots.txt mode?
Most WordPress robots.txt tools use a virtual mode — filtering the output through hooks — which works fine for most sites. But we've seen cases where another plugin, a caching layer, or a particular hosting setup overrides or ignores those hooks. Physical mode writes directly to a real robots.txt file at your site root, which always wins. Virtual stays the default because it works for the vast majority of sites; physical is there for when you need certainty.
Does PressHangar AI Citations conflict with Yoast SEO or Rank Math FAQ schema?
No. PressHangar AI Citations checks first — if it detects that Yoast or Rank Math is already generating FAQ schema on a page, it skips that page entirely. You won't end up with duplicate JSON-LD blocks.
What about llms.txt — do major AI assistants actually read it?
llms.txt is an emerging convention. Some newer models are beginning to recognize it, but there's no guarantee ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity will read yours. Treat it as early-stage, potentially useful, and not a core strategy on its own — which is exactly how PressHangar AI Citations presents it.
Does this plugin slow down my site?
No meaningful impact. The AI Crawler Manager works at the robots.txt level, FAQ schema is generated once per page load via a footer hook, and llms.txt is generated once when you save your settings. No extra database calls and no external requests on the front end.
Does PressHangar AI Citations support multisite?
The current release supports single-site installations. Multisite support is planned for a future release.
